GEPIMA 2014

GEPIMA stands for Gerakan Persatuan Belia India Muslim Malaysia.

This event brings together students from various madrasahs from all over Malaysia. There were a lot of madrasahs from Selangor, Terengganu, Johor and several from Penang. This is the 15th time this event is being held and it is held in different venues every year. This year it was held at Wisma Belia AMYC, Jalan Syed Putra,KL.

Just got off the bus

This year, there were over 400 participants. Tough competition :O

The events held are Tilawah Al-Quran, Religious talk (ceramah agama), religious quiz (kuiz agama), memorization of surahs (hafazan), short drama and nasyid.

The ceramah agama, quiz agama, short drama and nasyid were held in 4 different languages.

I'll skip most of it and head to the good part : my speech.

First up was the speeches in Tamil language. Hafiz, from my madrasah was the first to talk. He was so nervous but he had already done the same thing the previous year, and won third. I'd say, not bad for a 13-year old to come up and talk like that.

Then came the speeches in Malay.

Quite a lot of the contestants forgot their lines halfway through. I'll tell you how to not forget your lines and calm your nerves down before talking in front of people. This is coming from an introvert.

Just before I started, the organizers were setting up a new mike and sound system and I was the first to try it out !! Wheee XD
Not only that, the judge also said that those who look at their audience and give eye contact would be given extra points. THANK YOU SIR !

My voice was a bit shaky at first, and then I went droning on and on.. I did forget my lines, especially the Quran verses and got my lines all mixed up towards the end. Thank God, I managed to cover it up! I'll post up the video of me talking, but it was cut short by a minute ( I do not know why, ask my father about it ;))

Fast forward to the next day...

I had a good feeling about today. I carried myself with an air of confidence and anxiety.

The day kicked off with a drama performance my Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Hira, Klang. Then came the prize giving ceremony.

My heart was beating, thumping so hard it could have come out of my mouth anytime !  First, they were mentioning the names of those who came third for all events, followed by second and then first.

Third ? Done and over...
Second? Done...
First...

Bagi acara ceramah agama, kategori Bahasa Tamil, dimenangi oleh adik Hafizuddin. WHOOH ! The first first prize our madrasah won.

Then...

Bagi acara ceramah agama, kategori Bahasa Inggeris, dimenangi oleh adik Thahirah binti Ashiq. Oh my God, alhamdulillah ! I was so anxious till I was squirming in my seat. Butterflies traveled all the way from my tummy, to my feet and to my head. I was grinning from ear to ear.

This was something. It made my mum very very happy as I got a prize for my madrasah and myself within 5 months of learning under this Ustad. I came down from the stage and thanked him and Roshna akka (she hates it when I call her aunty). It wouldn't have worked out this well, without their guidance and of course, mum and papa

I got my stage fright under control, for now. It needs some fine tuning.

With my really heavy trophies
The dude behind me, standing, is Hafiz. He won for ceramah agama in Tamil language.

With our dear Ustaz :)

" Repetition is the key to success"

-Mr. Raj

The many times he made us memorize our consolidation notes. Again and again. It's been two years but I can still say my proton numbers, electro chemical series and re activity series.

Even, the books we were supposed to used were 'virgin'. The books are not to be scribbled on, at all. Till the day we were to sit for our Chemistry paper.

It was all worth it.

Thank you, sir.

Form 4 and I'm the only senior in green :)
Mr Raj is the one sitting at the edge of the white board

Daddy Says

#1 : CARPE DIEM
It means 'seize the day' in Latin. No matter how yesterday went - whether you had achieved success, suffered a downfall or just spent a whole day in bed : it's done.

Look forward, everyday is a new opportunity. You should not rest on yesterdays accomplishments. If you have done otherwise, set a specific benchmark.

List down the mistakes you think you have done and rectify them. Do not repeat them... (abuden?!)

Form 6 : Orientation Week

Day 1

We arrived in school around 7.30 and the ex-thirteenians gathered together in a group before heading to the hall. Well, everyone was in their respective groups.

So for the next one week, we'd have to sing the national anthem, state song and the school song EVERY morning. The school song is quite nice though. Sounds really funky, like some 80's era song.

Then, it was ice breaking time. My seniors in the Upper 6 are really friendly. Like, super friendly.  Any doubt? Ask them. Info on a teacher's teaching? Straight from the oven. Bottom line, they're your bros.

Basically, today we just got to know the rest of the Lower 6 (as we call ourselves). Not to be racist or anything, but there were so many Chinese students, with tongue-twister names. Guess, it'll take some time before I get their names right :)

Taking a break..

The Upper 6 were sitting there making fun of us :)

Teacher Appreciation Post

Teachers Day is just around the corner. So I thought I'd write this to say a heartfelt thank you to my teachers who have guided me through mt pursuit of knowledge. Throughout my entire school life, I've studied under various teachers (ABUDEN?) Some real nice, some who carry their duties by the book, teachers who are forever PMS-ing, some that make you wanna fluff a pillow and fall asleep in their class and some teachers are just pure fantastic. I'm not gonna say who's who..but let's just carry on.

When I was in Primary 1, I had this terrible math teacher who strikes terror in the hearts of her student. Like, seriously, she was just that bad. I had another one in Form 3 till Form 5, she was like the ultimate queen of, you know..*insert-five-letter-word-here* (I'll get to her later). So, this Math teacher had a teacher of pinching her students till it leaves a mark. It was only through this teacher I learnt that "habis" not only meant finish, but it also meant so. There was this fella who shifted school because of this teacher. All this in Primary 1. Haihh..

Now, moving on to Primary 6, this teacher has taught me the longest. Well, she's still teaching. When I was in P6, she told us her age and I was counting the years till she retired. But I guess she has no plans on doing so. She taught me, then my sister and then my youngest sister too. So, she has taught the three sisters English. Dear Madame Geraldine Vaz

Trying to give my "swag" smile :)

I don't know why but my English teachers end up teaching me the longest, in both primary as well as secondary school. There were times where I got my name written in the dreaded buku merah.

Teacher, let me tell you now, I wasn't given a chance to explain what I did. I was framed by two idiots who were fooling around.
Oh well.

Madame Suba was also a terrific English teacher. She's strict yet can be very loving. Last I saw her was during my sister's UPSR result day. I had just finished my History paper 3. She saw me, wished me well, gave me a peck on the cheek and said the next time she'll see me in a function, would be my marriage.
Uh huh. Tell me about it.

HIGH SCHOOL - SMK USJ 13

I don't really remember my lower secondary years teachers.. so I'll fast forward to 2012. I was 16 and in Form 4 Efisien.

Mr Syahrir

Yes. We got him as out ICT teacher. Trust me, he's so cool! He lets us watch movies, go on FB and even bought us all pizza once :)

Madame Adzlinda

This is one add math teacher you don't wanna mess with.

Madame Tay

A chem and math teacher :) But, mostly math.

Madame Tan Poh Yoon

Dedication? She's the definition !

She loves, loves, loves (did I mention loves?) to give you assignments.

Few days left for SPM

Madame Vasantha

Strict History teacher with highly effective teaching methods

She taught me History when I was sitting for my PMR and my SPM. Thank God, both years I passed History with a high distinction :D

Madame Farzanna

She was the one who taught me English the longest in secondary school. Form 1, 2 and 5. Marilyn says she gives me good marks for English because she knows me the longest. Crazy. She and Madame Vasantha know my love for books far too well :)

Madame Zurina

We resorted to calling her our 'mummy' for our last year at school. She was so warm, a soft-spoken person, hardly scolds us and yet hounds us for our homework. Marilyn and I talk to her in English during BM class and we still get away with it :)
We love you Puan Zurina !

Mr Thiru

You are the awesomest teacher filled with swag. I've picked up a few things from you and I really hope you spread your colourful knowledge with everyone.

Still remember that teacher I mentioned earlier? Everyone who studied under her hated her. PE teacher. She even slapped a girl from the neighboring class and that girl updated her status : I really hate you. I hope you get hit by a bus.  Nuff' said

You have one of the most noblest jobs. Without you, we are nothing.
Happy Teachers Day !

A Teacher's View From The School Window

While waiting outside tuition classes
Parents brains migrate to their arses
Parked indiscriminately blocking traffic
While their children learn mathematic

They guess its ok to be idiotic
As their cars are automatic
Spewing carbon monoxide
Creating a gassy genocide

"We're in our air conditioned bubble
If others die that's not our trouble
Our kids will just inhale a little
They'll live a life that hangs brittle"
the herd mentality of Malaysian cattle!
